This week a verdict was handed down to Real Networks killing fair use and personal property in America. The ruling was was about whether users should be able to make copies of content that they legally own. The ruling stated that coping DVDs that you own is illegal. The suit was filled against Real Networks for there RealDVD software which ripped thru protection technology to allow users to make copies of their legally-owned content. RealNetworks has plans to release a DVD drive and software called Facet which will make the process even easier.
What do you think about this? Do you think you should have the right to copy DVDs that you have bought. Do you think that more people use this software to illegally copy DVDs or do they use it the way it was intended to be used by making legal copies of DVDs that you own. RealNetworks has suspended sell online of these products, but I expect an appeal to be coming next week. What would you like to see happen with this case?
